I live in Springfield, Oregon with my wife,
Judy, and two labradoodles, Freddie and Tiger Lily. In 2001 I retired from the Springfield Fire Department
after 32 years of service. During the spring and summer months I am a guide on the beautiful McKenzie River where I
teach people the art of fly fishing (see GUIDING page), and have been a member of the McKenzie River Guides Association for over 35 years. When not on the river,
hunting or traveling, I spend full days in the shop with my nose to the grindstone.
I have always been an
outdoor enthusiast. Bow hunting, fishing, guiding and exploring are a way of life. Naturally I need a good
knife whether it is for skinning an elk, cleaning a trout, filleting a steelhead or slicing a tomato for lunch.
As a bow hunter I have first-hand knowledge of how a knife should perform and have developed knives that are not only
good to look at, but hold a wicked edge.
Before retiring from the fire department I began making and
selling custom knives. Here in the Northwest we are fortunate to have many of the world's best custom knife makers.
Many are my friends and mentors and I have benefitted from their knowledge and skills. Bill Harsey patiently taught
me the basics and I spent many hours in his shop in the early years. My skills are continuing to improve and
my lines of knives are expanding resulting in several awards at various knife shows.
This profession is
not only work, but a passion, and continues to grow with the years!
